Eugene was born and raised in Missouri until the age of 11 when along with his sister Bette, his mother and father moved the family to Bakersfield, Ca. Gene graduated from Bakersfield College and later earned both a Bachelors Degree and a ME Degree from California State University, Fresno. Gene taught high school for three years at Edison and then at Wawona for the remainder of his 32 year career.
Gene served in the U.S. Navy late in WWII and later in the Korean Conflict. While in Bakersfield, he met Dorothy Ann Rounsavell. Upon his return from Korea, they married in 1952 and moved to Fresno in 1953 in order for Gene to complete his advanced education at CSUF. Their son, John, was born in Fresno on April 1, 1954.
Gene and his wife built their vacation home in Morro Bay where they were founding members of the Morro Bay Yacht Club. Gene loved to sail, wood working, and golf. He was a long-time member of the Fort Washington Golf & Country Club.
Gene is preceded in death by his father, John; his mother, Homa; and his daughter, Dorothy Jean.
He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 60 years; his son John and his wife Kathleen; grandson Jonathan; and sister, Bette Stinson.
A Graveside Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park on Friday, March 15, 2013, at 1:00 p.m.
