William “Bill” M. Sheppard Jr., 88, of Camp Hill, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 in the Claremont Nursing Home. He was born September 25, 1924 in Harrisburg, PA; he was the son of the late William M. and Hazel (Yost) Sheppard Sr.
Bill was formerly employed by Myers Manufacturing Co. of Harrisburg working as a Manager in the printing department. He also worked in the layout & design department for the General Assembly in the House of Representatives. He was an active member in the Church of the Good Shepherd in Camp Hill.
Mr. Sheppard was a member of the 5th Marine Amphibious Corps during World War II. He was a former Vice President of the Legion of Mary at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, former member of the American Legion, former member of the Loyal Order of Moose and former member of the Harrisburg Art Association. He also did volunteer work at The Church of the Good Shepherd with the Caring Team, which provides transportation for those in need, visiting the sick and giving support to grieving families.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Doris J. Sheppard. He is survived by his son William “Skip” M. Sheppard, III and his wife Chyrle of Murrells Inlet, SC; and his four grandchildren Michele Stough of Camp Hill; Michael Sheppard of Wormleysburg; Michelle Koontz of Manchester and Dennis Heiges and his wife Carolyn of York Haven. He also has 5 great-grandchildren, Zachary Stough, Jenna and Stephen Koontz; and Jakob and Meghan Heiges.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 20, 2013 in Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 Trindle Rd., Camp Hill. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Harrisburg. A viewing will be held at 9:30 AM Wednesday at the church until time of service.
