NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mr. James E. “Cookie” Hebert, age 85, at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Langlois officiating. Interment will be held at Holy Family Mausoleum with a flag presentation by VFW Post #1982.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Wednesday until service time.
A native of Loreauville and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Hebert passed away at 2:56 pm on Friday March 15, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Hebert served his country honorably in both the U.S. Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was employed in the oilfield industry at Lane Wells Co. for 17 years as a wire line technician, Welder’s Supply Co. for 5 years and S&W Machine Shop for 22 years as a salesman.
Mr. Hebert’s favorite hobbies included motor homing and dancing. He also loved cooking and talking about recipes with his grandson Jeff.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kathryn DeHart Hebert; son, Chris E. Hebert and wife Suzanne Talbot Hebert of Boise, Idaho; daughter, Gwen Currie and husband Bruce Currie of The Woodlands, TX; three grandsons, Brad Currie and Brian Currie both of Houston and Jeff Hebert of Norwood, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Myrtis Fremin Hebert; parents, Octave Joseph and Eunice Dugas Hebert; two brothers, Francis Hebert and Frank Hebert and one sister, Ruby Broussard Dugas.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hebert, Brad Currie, Brian Currie, Matt David, Mark Landry and Gerald Hebert.
