A native of Paris, TN, Dr. Compton was the daughter of the late William and Lena Mai Smith Compton. She received her undergraduate degree at Peabody College at Vanderbilt, her PhD in education from the University of Florida and retired as Professor of Curriculum and Supervision at the University of Georgia. Dr. Compton made significant contributions to the field of middle school education and had been a teacher, principal and education consultant. She was an avid tennis player, the first president of the Clarke/Oconee Tennis Association (COTA) and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for over 10 years. Dr. Compton was a member of the University of Georgia Mixed Chorus and a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church where she was very active in the choir.
A memorial service will be held 11AM Saturday, April 20th at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. A reception will follow the service at the church.
