Falmouth - George P. Chandler, 96, died on Saturday March 23, 2013, at his home. He was born in Bridgton, Maine, the son of the late Perley and Mildred B. Chandler, and attended Bridgton schools. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.
George was employed for many years as a carpenter. Then he worked as a cabinet maker up until his retirement in 1979.
He was a member of the Falmouth Congregational Church, the Holiday Rambler Recreational Club and Chapter 111 of the Civilian Conservation Corps.
His home and family were very important to him as were animals, bird watching, gardening, hiking, handwork, woodworking, camping and traveling with their trailer or motor home in which they covered most of the United States and Canada. He enjoyed many winters in Zephyrhills, FL.
George was predeceased by his wife, Athalie G. Chandler, a brother Philip B. Chandler and two sisters, Pearle C. Rose and Ruth C. Palmer. He is survived by his daughter Cynthia C. Rogers and her husband John of Scarborough, a son Peter S. Chandler and his wife Kathie of Wyoming, two Grandchildren Heather Nasella and Jason Rogers, two Step Grandchildren Chalese Carlson and Kiera Packer, and two Great Grandchildren Samantha and Brooke Nasella.
Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Falmouth at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Maine Children’s Home, 34 Gilman Street, Waterville, ME.
