Leila Ellen Alexander passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on March 25 in Chandler. She was born April 26, 1916 in Lovington, Illinois, the daughter of Roy and Mattie Aschermann and older sister of Don. In 1936 she married the love of her life, Maurice Alexander, on New Year’s Eve. His work as an electrical engineer took them to live many places, moving 18 times during their 55 year marriage. They also travelled extensively – both in the United States and overseas. Maurice died in 1991, 7 years after their move to Sun City, Arizona. Everywhere they lived, Leila was active in helping others: Girl Scouts, 4H, and tutoring illiterate students to read. In Sun City, she worked in the Food Bank, the Symphony Guild, PRIDES, the Art Museum, and served as deacon at Faith Presbyterian Church. She loved bridge, crossword puzzles, music, reading, giving book reviews, and most of all, her family.
Leila leaves behind her daughters, Janet Sepiol and Patricia Alexander, her grandchildren Heidi Johnson, Christine Ellen Chacon, and Alex Sepiol, and her great grandchildren, Eric, Mark, and Jennifer Leila Johnson. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 3 PM at Park Regency, 2555 N Price Rd, Chandler.
