Myrtle was born on October 6, 1933 in Bainbridge, GA, to the late John T. and Myrtle Simpson. She received her BA in Fashion Merchandising from Florida State University in 1955 where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Myrtle was elected Dream Girl of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity in 1954 and met her future husband in this fraternity. She married George E. Aase of Virginia, MN, on May 6, 1956. Myrtle had a twenty-five year career with the State of Florida Department of Professional Regulation rising to Executive Director for the Barber and Cosmetology Boards. She was eventually elected as National President of the National Association of Barber Boards. Outside of work, Myrtle enjoyed traveling, shopping, cooking and spending time with her family and cats. Her greatest joy was going to and watching FSU football games. Myrtle and George lived in Tallahassee, FL from 1957 to 2009 when she and her husband moved to the Atlanta area to be closer to her son and grandchildren.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dr. John T. Simpson of Tallahassee, FL.
Survivors include her husband, George E. Aase of Roswell, GA; sons, George E. Aase, II and partner Andreas Studer of Zurich, Switzerland and Paul T. Aase and wife Jennifer Aase of Cumming, GA; two granddaughters, Caroline Grace Aase and Meredith Elise Aase of Cumming, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Culley’s MeadowWood Chapel – 700 Timberlane Rd, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park.
