Grant Averett Maughan, 67, of Twin Falls passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his dear wife and children on March 27, 2013. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for several years and it is comforting to know that he is finally at peace and not suffering any longer.
Grant was born on January 15, 1946 in Antioch, California to loving parents, Edwin and Berma Maughan, he was the third of five children. He grew up and attended schools in California; where he had a very competitive spirit and passion of baseball. He was an excellent pitcher for James Logan High School in Newark, California and after graduation he attended Brigham Young University on a baseball scholarship.
Grant was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served a two-year mission in the Massachusetts, Boston Mission. Shortly after his mission he was visiting a ward in Hayward, California and met the love of his life, Lynette Butler. Within a few months they fell in love, became engaged and were married in the Oakland L.D.S. Temple on December 2, 1967. They have spent 45 wonderful years together and are comforted to know that their marriage is eternal because of temple covenants. Grant served as Bishop, Counselor in a Stake presidency, Ward and Stake Young Men’s President and as a faithful home teacher. He loved serving in any capacity but especially loved serving with the Youth.
Grant was called to be a member of the Twin Falls L.D.S. Temple Committee a few years ago and considered it an honor and a true labor of love. He was also an Ordinance worker in the Boise L.D.S. Temple and then the Twin Falls L.D.S. Temple after its completion.
Grant was a Police Officer for 6 years in Hayward, California and earned a reputation for being a man of great integrity. After leaving the police force he joined the business world and eventually began a lengthy career in the insurance industry. He was an agent for Allstate Insurance for one year and was quickly advanced into management. The company transferred him to Twin Falls at Grant’s request where he managed all of Eastern Idaho for several years before branching out and beginning his own agency in the Health Insurance industry. He recently retired as his health began to deteriorate.
Grant is survived by his wife, Lynette and their four exemplary children, Darin (Lorrie) Maughan of Meridian, ID; Brian (Wendy) Maughan; Sherlyn (Paul) Lloyd; and Jared (Kirsten) Maughan all of Twin Falls. He leaves behind 17 grandchildren, Trevor, Jason, Karson, Jensyn, Blake, Miranda, Spencer, Felicia, Vanessa, Maddie, Tyler, Jake, Porter, Ashley, Dylan, Jackson and Claire who brought him so much joy especially as his health began to fail.
