LaVerne “Bud” E. Dickson, 82, of Machesney Park, passed away on Thursday, March 28 at North Woods Care Centre of Belvidere after a long illness. Born on May 21, 1930 in Angelica, WI, he was the son of Norman and Geneva (Templeman) Dickson. On September 19, 1952, he married Mary Jane Pohl in Santa Maria, CA.
Bud was a United States Air Force veteran and a 40 year employee of Mott Brothers. He was affectionately called “Mr. Fix It”. He enjoyed fishing, camping, driving race cars, gardening, riding motorcycles, and being a Foster Dad to over 300 babies with Children’s Home & Aid. Most of all, Bud loved spending time with his family and his dog, Polly.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 60 years, Mary Dickson; children, Nancy (Mike) D’Angelo, Linda (Jeff) Engstrom, Barbara (Gary) Rosendahl, Jeffrey Dickson, and Dawn (Robert) Haase; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, and Jessica D’Angelo, April (Eric) Meyer, Amber (Derrick) Lau, Justin Goble, Kaylee and Sienna Rosendahl, Evan and Jake Dickson; great grandchildren, Lila and Audrey Meyer, Tyler, Willa, Natalee and Noelle Lau; sister, Thelma Dickson, and brother, Adrian (Carol) Dickson.
He was predeceased by his parents, a grandson, Alan Dickson; and son-in-law, Bill Goble.
Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park with Pastor Truman Turner officiating.
