Mary Carter Jones Ray died on April 1st, 2013 at Levine Dickson Hospice. She was born on May 5, 1921 in Randolph County, NC, daughter of the late Wesley Irvin Jones and Vanna Hughes Jones. She graduated from Greensboro College with a degree in music. She was a public music school teacher and taught piano and organ and was a choir director. Mrs. Ray enjoyed art and was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, John F. Ray; also surviving is a daughter, Jill Ray of Concord, NC; a grandson, Andrew Ray (Diana) of Knoxville, TN; a granddaughter, Emily Ray Dunn (Shaun) of Martinsburg, WVA; daughter-in-law, Janet Ray of Vienna, WVA; four sisters, Betty Dorsett of Ramseur, NC, Iris Kivett of Greensboro, NC, Carolyn Albright of Ramseur, NC, and Jackie Cox of Asheboro, NC; and five great-grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her son, Wesley Carl Ray; a daughter, Mary Gate Ray; a brother, Wesley Irvin Jones, Jr.; and a sister, Bobbie Jones Phelps.
A Graveside Service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
