Ruby B. Jones, age 83, passed away on April 3, surrounded by her four adoring children. She was born on July 11, 1929, to the parents of George and Anita Bolton in La Coste, Tx and shortly after moved to Schertz, Tx. She graduated from Schertz-Cibolo H.S. in 1946 as its Valedictorian. She attended The University of Texas at Austin graduating in 1950 with a BBA in Commercial Teaching. After teaching in East Central ISD and San Antonio ISD, she married Ralph H. Jones in 1959. Together they had 4 children. In 1973, she returned to teaching and taught at Windcrest Elementary in North East ISD until her retirement. She was a member of both Kappa Kappa Iota and Delta Kappa Gamma, both teaching sororities.
Upon retirement her interest turned to genealogy. Through her research she was able to document many ancestors dating back to the 1700’s and became a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Confederacy, and the United Daughters of the War of 1812. She held numerous offices in these organizations. She was a member of the S. A. Genealogical and Historical Society and served as Texas State Chairman of the S. A. Warm Springs Rehabilitation. She enjoyed traveling that included trips to 15 countries in Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore, Israel and Egypt. She was an avid Longhorn, Spur and Cowboy fan, never missing a game.
She is survived by children: Ann Irvin and husband Barlow; Lisa Vieger and husband John; Ruby Carrillo and husband Manuel; and Ralph Jones and fiancé Michele Johnson. “Mi’Ma” also had 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Monday, April 8 at Sunset North Funeral Home at 6:00 PM with Rosary at 7:00 PM and funeral service at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 9 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
