Black, Jerry Michael, age 50, a member of the homeless community in Knoxville, passed away March 7, 2013 in Knoxville. Jerry was orphaned at an early age and grew up in foster homes in West Virginia and Arizona. At the age of eighteen, Recruit Seaman Black enlisted in the United States Navy and served from April 2, 1980 to February 22, 1982. He was an Electrical/Mechanical Equipment Repairman aboard the USS Norton Sound AVM-1. Jerry will be buried at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery 11:30 am Thursday, April 11, 2013 with full military honors. There are no known survivors therefore; all veterans and others interested in attending are invited to stand at his service.
