CHAPIN – Funeral services for Joseph E. Chapman, 99, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pomaria with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 622 Hope Station Road, Pomaria, SC 29126. .
Mr. Chapman was born November 17, 1913 in Peak, SC and passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013. He was the son of the late Jobe J. Chapman and Aurelia Derrick Chapman. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pomaria. He attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Chapman owned and operated Chapman’s Service Station in Chapin. He was a veteran serving his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was a member of the VFW #641 and the American Legion Post 191 in Chapin. He was inducted into the Chapin Hall of Fame in 2007 for service to his community and country. He enjoyed dancing well into his 80’s. He was an avid gamecock fan, Shriner and a charter member of the Chapin Ruitan Club.
Mr. Chapman is survived by his sister-in-law, Dorothy Chapman of Cayce; nieces and nephews, David Chapman (Patricia) of Chapin, Leonard Chapman (Donna) of Lexington, Steve Chapman (Natalie) of Wadmalaw Island, SC, Jean Chapman of Cayce and Rosemary Frick (Marion) of Columbia. He was predeceased by his brothers, Carl B “Dick” Chapman, David Harold “Hack” Chapman; sister, Ollie Mae Addy; nephew, Carl Chapman, Jr. and niece, Betty C. King. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
