Rafael Cotto, Sr. (91) of Gretna, Louisiana passed away on April 4, 2013. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is survived by his wife Maria O. Cotto and four children: Ivonne Millet (Calvin), Rafael, Jr. (Lori), Susann Jolly (Joe) and Leticia McCourt (Charles) and the late Salome' Cotto. Also by his ten grandchildren: Adrienne, Ashley, Lauren, Taryn, Peyton, Christian, Felicia, Michael, Jennifer, Christina and one great-grandchild Zachary. Also survived by many niecesn nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Antonia Cervera Cotto and Felix Cotto, and his siblings, Gregorio Cotto (Lydia), Juan Manuel Cotto (Emila), Felicita Cotto Romero (Roberto), and Socorro Cotto Villanueva (Victor).
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After serving in the military, he worked for 20 years on the USS Cristobal, a maritime ship which sailed from New York City and New Orleans to the Panama Canal Zone. After retiring, he worked as a longshoreman at Local 300 in New Orleans. Rafael was also a Charter member of the Westbank BPOE Elks Lodge #2496 where he served as Exalted Ruler and District Deputy in the 1970’s.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Visitation which will be held at Westside Leitz Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 1:00 PM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Chapel.
