He was born July 5, 1929, in Burlington, Iowa, to Edith and Ralph Wischmeier. He was a CFO at The Leopold Company prior to owning and operating Sickels Laundry and Cleaners in Burlington.
Mr. Wischmeier earned degrees at the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Oklahoma, but was an ardent supporter of University of Iowa athletic teams. He was a Life Master bridge player and a golf and tennis enthusiast and was named to the Iowa Tennis Hall of Fame.
His greatest source of joy, far and away, was his family. He presided over numerous family reunions, many of them conducted at George Williams College Camp in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where he had held a summer job as a young man. Upon his retirement, he moved to Fort Myers, Florida, and later to Tallahassee.
Mr. Wischmeier is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Marg; three sons and their spouses, Rick and Joan Wischmeier, Randy and Nancy Wischmeier and Marc and Lucy Wischmeier; two daughters and their spouses, Margot Wischmeier and Steve Bornhoft and Michelle and Paddy Juarez; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday (April 13, 2013) at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel at Allegro 4501 Shannon Lakes Dr. West, Tallahassee,Fl 32309. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Burlington YMCA (www.burlingtony.org) or Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee (www.bigbendhospice.org).
