Lansing
Age 60, passed away unexpectedly at home in Lansing, MI on
Sunday, April 7th, 2013. Kirk was born in Flint, MI and graduated
from the University of Michigan with degrees in Administrative
Education. Kirk began his career as a Community Education
Director in Swartz Creek and Potterville Public Schools. He later
became superintendent for Fowler and Napoleon Public Schools.
Kirk retired in June of 2012 from the Lansing School District as
principal of Pattengill. Kirk loved serving the students and families
of the Lansing School District. Everyone enjoyed his outgoing
personality and stories.
Kirk was enjoying his retirement, cooking, and spending more
time with his family. He was a devoted U of M fan and was
especially thrilled recently to see U of M succeed in the NCAA
Basketball Tournament. Kirk loved fishing, boating and spending
time with his extended family at Lake Charlevoix in Boyne City.
He also enjoyed camping and hunting with his dad, brothers and
sons.
Kirk is survived by his loving family, wife Susan of 33 years, sons
Brett, Ryan, Patrick and Jacob. He also is survived by his mother
Veraine Sulzman, brothers, Kenneth, Jeff (Karen), many nieces
& nephews, and his granddaughter. Kirk also leaves behind his
dear friend of many years Neal Wilensky.
A Funeral Mass will take place at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Catholic Church, 3815 S. Cedar St., Lansing, MI, at 11:00 A.M.
Friday, April 12, 2013. The family will receive friends at
Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel, 900 E.
Michigan Ave., Lansing, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, April
11, 2013, and one-hour prior to the service at church on Friday.
