Laurence E. Mauler of Greeley, formerly of La Salle died April 15, 2013 at Hospice of Northern Colorado. Laurence was born May 29, 1919 to Maurice and Lydia (Bergt) Mauler in Pleasanton, Nebraska. Laurence married Marilyn O. Throne on July 17, 1946 in Kearney, Nebraska.
Stationed in Fort Eustis, Virginia, Laurence served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He served in New Caledonia during WWII with the rank of Private First Class. Laurence played the bass Fiddle in a band while serving.
Laurence farmed on his father’s wheat farm until moving to Red Cloud, Nebraska. He and Marilyn moved to Platteville in 1960 and then to La Salle in 1962. Laurence worked as a grounds keeper for Colorado State Teachers College, now UNC, until his retirement.
Laurence was a gentle man who was proud of his home in La Salle. He loved spending time in his shop where he would invent and tinker to find ways to make daily tasks easier for himself. A trait he picked up from his father who had a patent on tractor tires. Laurence was very active well into his nineties. He enjoyed cross country skiing, cycling and his daily walks. His past times included organic gardening, reading and cooking. He also had a love for music, and could play the bass fiddle, guitar and trombone. Laurence was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Laurence is survived by his son, K.C. Mauler and wife Suzann of Greeley; daughter, Diane Milner and husband Dennis of Carrollton, Virginia; grandson, Tyrell Milner of Fairbanks, Alaska. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and eight siblings.
Graveside inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
