Edward Carlyn Ray age 93 of Goodlettsville went home Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Edward was born Sunday, February 22, 1920 in Smith County, Tennessee to the late William Houston and Ova Lee Haynees Ray. He is also preceded in death by his first wife Katholeen Gill Ray.
Mr. Ray is survived his wife of 26 years, Lorene May Ray; children, Vivian Buttrey, Leonora (Dan) Thompson, Kathy (Joe) Kimbrough, Norma (Greg) Seat, James (Anita) May and Juanita (Dan) Carpenter; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Gerald (Susie) Ray and Ted Ray; sister, Louise Mathews.
Mr. Ray served his country during World War II in the United States Army under the direction of General Patton. He earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After his discharge from the Army, Edward served at the Veterans Administration Hospital until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 Friday, April 26, 2013 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Brother Ken Castleberry officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are James May, Steven Harrell, Drew Carpenter, Alan Horn, Greg Seat and Hank Ethridge.
Family and friends will gather to remember Mr. Ray at a visitation Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 and Friday, April 26, from 12:00 until 2:00 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1150 South Dickerson Rd. Goodlettsville, TN 37072
