James D. Kelly, 82, of Kansas City, MO, died suddenly April 21, 2013 at The Groves Living Center of Independence, MO. He was born on Jan. 7, 1931, the third son of Walter L. & Gertrude (Clevenger) Kelly in Braymer, MO where he grew up & graduated from Braymer High School in 1949. Soon after graduation, he began his career with Merck & Company in Kansas City, MO. That was interrupted during the Korean Conflict, where he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Helena from 1950 to 1954. He then returned to Merck & Company, retiring after 40 years. Jim was a life member of VFW 1000 of Independence, a member of FOE Eagles 3717 and Loyal Order of Moose No. 10; both of Sugar Creek, MO. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Kelly. He is survived by his brother, Harold Kelly (Mary) of Ft. Collins, CO; a sister-in-law, Lois Kelly of KCMO; his nieces, Paula Barrows of KCMO, Lynda Klouda (Kenny) of Rawlins, WY & Janice Kelly of Ft. Collins, CO; his nephew, Jerry Kelly (Nancy) of KCMO; his great nephews, Nick Kelly & Kelly Klouda; his great nieces, Alex Kelly & Jessica Barrows Woodard; Jim’s loving friend and companion of 13 years, Betty and many more relatives & friends. Jim will be dearly missed and always remain in our hearts. To honor Jim’s request, there will be no memorial service. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal.
