Kelly Agnes Averill, 47, of Winston-Salem passed away on April 26, 2013. She was born in New York City to Robert H. Smith and Betty Wyatt Phifer Smith. At 5 years old, she and the family moved to Kingsley, Michigan.
After graduation, she worked various jobs until enlisting in the Navy in 1990. After 14 years of service as a Navy Career Counselor she was medically retired in 2004 as 1st Class Petty Officer. In 2010 she was honorarily raised to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Upon retiring from the Navy, Kelly moved to NC to be close to her parents and for rehabilitation.
She is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; uncle, Carl Smith; aunt, Barbara Daniels; and cousin, Robert Daniels Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory include children, Joshua Aaron Averill and Jasmine Ariel Averill; parents, Robert H. and Betty W. Smith; brothers, Rev. Mr. Sean Patrick Smith (Sara) and Christopher Robert Smith (Jennifer); aunt, Bernadette O’Connor (John); uncle, Richard Smith (Millie); aunt, Jean Sanders (Joseph); aunt, Jackie Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, 11:00 am, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Michael Butner officiating and co-concelebrant, Rev. Mr. Sean Smith. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.
