Evelio Arroyo, age 70, beloved husband of Mariana Arroyo for 47 years, went to be with the Lord on April 30, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born in Zulueta, Las Villas, Cuba, August 15, 1942 he was the son of the late Dominga Goméz and Eladio Arroyo. Mr. Arroyo was an employee of International Flavors and Fragrances, Inc. in Hazlet, New Jersey for over 40 years.
Mr. Arroyo was a very devoted and active parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in Charlotte for several years. He was awarded the Veritas Award for service to the parish in 2011. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He also actively volunteered at Countryside Montessori Schools in Charlotte, NC.
Besides his wife Mariana, he is survived by his daughters Suzanne Arroyo from Athens, AL, Evelyn Arroyo from Concord, NC, son David Arroyo from Belford, NJ, grand daughters Camryn, Cathryn, Sydney and Ashley as well as four sisters, two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 3rd, 10 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5-7 pm at McEwen Funeral Service – Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to either: Hospice & Palliative Care Lake Norman 705 Griffith Street, Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036 or The Alzheimer’s Association 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
