David Luther Walker, Jr., 66, of Hickory, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at his residence. Born March 30, 1947 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late David Luther Walker, Sr. and Willie Mae Lineberger Walker. David received Jesus as his Lord and Savior at age 64 and was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. He retired as an upholsterer with Thomasville Furniture. David was a veteran of the Vietnam War who served his country proudly from 1966 – 1968. He was a loving husband, father, brother and a lover of life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Walker, Bobby L. Walker, Alvin Walker and George Walker.
David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Estelle (Susie) Yoder Walker of the home; son, David Brian Walker; daughter, Lisa Dawn Walker Gentry and husband Joseph; brothers, Charles Walker and wife Mary Lou and Clyde Walker; sisters, Eloise McCurry, Diane Patton, Carrie Davidson, and Betty Hatton and husband Witt; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 3, 2013 in the chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory with the Rev. John C. Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
