During World War II she moved to San Antonio to work in an aircraft riveting plant, and it was there that she met Sam Miller on a blind date. She was passionate about keeping fit and swam at the downtown Y and walked regularly. Ruth enjoyed volunteering as a Candy Striper at Seton Hospital. She loved animals and was devoted to her family. She was a proud unofficial Austin and Texas ambassador whenever she traveled.
Ruth will be dearly remembered by her son, Stuart Miller, her daughter, Sue Bires, granddaughter, Macey Bires, by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen and Martha Golden and Ed and Dolly Golden, by her niece, Beth Golden Marsh, Neil, Gail and Nancy Miller and other beloved nieces and nephews.
