LEONARD TURNER, of Loveland, Colorado, passed away May 4, 2013. Leonard Bruce Turner was born November 19, 1921 in Santa Ana, California. Leonard met and married Margaret Anderson in Chicago on July 6, 1946. Margaret and Leonard relocated to the Denver area in 1952. He and Margaret lived in Thornton, Englewood, and Evergreen before relocating to Loveland in 1999 to be closer to Margaret’s niece and nephew, Sherry and Greg Yost.
Leonard was very proud to have served his country during WW II. He served in the Coast Guard as a Pharmacist’s Mate in the Pacific Arena. Leonard worked as a dental technician until his retirement in the 1980’s. After his retirement, Leonard continued to work as a Wal-Mart Greeter in Evergreen. When Leonard and Margaret relocated to Loveland, he worked as a shuttle driver for Pederson Toyota in Fort Collins. Leonard and Margaret had been married 65 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. Cooking and baking were a passion of his. He began baking at an early age in the Chicago area and continued cooking and baking for family and friends for many years. Pets were also very important to Leonard throughout his life. He always had a dog or cat, and sometimes both. He and his friend and companion, Wiggles, were inseparable. Leonard loved talking with the neighbors. He loved seeing little kids in their costumes at Halloween. He was loved and will be missed by niece and nephew Sherry and Greg Yost; nephews Lee Rice, Wayne Rice, great nieces and nephews; niece Jan Turner; great nieces April Turner and Adrienne Wagenblast; brother-in-law Marvin Wagner; numerous nieces and nephews of Margaret; friend Cathy Martin; friend Els Deininger; friend Ellie Ivanhoff; the staff and friends at Sterling House in Loveland; and neighbors Annette, Ben and Cathy, and Vince and Terry. He is sorely missed by Wiggles. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gregory; wife, Margaret; sister and brother-in-law Jessie and Stew Rice; brother Howard Turner; and nephew Bradley Turner.
