John Donald Baker, 77, passed away very peacefully at Baptist South Hospital after an extended illness of over 13 months. John or “Donnie” as he was called by Family and close Friends was born and raised in Tallapoosa County - Reeltown, Alabama by his parents V.B. Baker and Essie Mae Baker (Deceased). He was a graduate of Reeltown High School and upon graduation joined the U.S. Air Force.
John served in the United States Air Force until his retirement as Senior Master Sergeant.
He was a Trained Air Force Medic and Certified Medical Surgical Technician (PA). He worked in the fields of both urology and orthopedics. He also retired from the Montgomery Orthopedics Group in Montgomery, Alabama.
John had distinguished service in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart for
that service at the Bien Hoa Air Force Base Hospital where he was wounded during a
Vietcong offensive attack on the Air Base. He received his wounds when attending to his
fellow wounded Servicemen on the flight line.
John is survived by his wife, Evelyn Virginia Baker, of Snowdon, Alabama. He and
Virginia were married for 55 years. He is survived by his Son, John Bradley Baker and
Brad's Daughter Summer Nicole, of Snowdon, Alabama, by his Son, James Scott Baker,
and Scott's Wife, Janet, of Slapout, Alabama, by his Son, Michael Eric Baker, Michael’s
Wife Anna, his Daughters Lauren Alyssa and Lindsey Brooke, of Montgomery, Alabama.
John's surviving siblings are, Carolyn Joan Baker Johnson of Lawrenceville, Georgia and
Kenneth Craig Baker of Montgomery, Alabama.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman. Most of the Family was convinced that he could
really think like a fish since he was always able to catch so many. He taught his Wife, Sons,
Grandchildren, Brother, and Friends all he knew about hunting and fishing. He enjoyed
working on his home with Virginia. He and Virginia were active members of PintlalaBaptist Church.
He had an Abiding Faith in THE LORD JESUS CHRIST with WHOM he now resides.
Visitation will be at Leak Memory Chapel, May 14, 2013 from 5:00 till 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be at Pintlala Baptist Church on May 15, 2013 at 12:00.
