"Am I dying or is this my birthday?" - Lady Astor, surrounded by family on the night she died -- Armand's favorite quote
Armand Alfred DuPont, Jr., 63, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Florida. He was a long-time resident of Jefferson County (Wacissa) and worked as an accountant for Florida State University Athletic Department until his retirement.
Armand grew up in Jacksonville and Miami, and attended the University of Tennessee, the University of Florida and Florida State University. He was a gifted AAU swimmer, and at 12 was at the top of his age group. He swam for the Jacksonville YMCA and the Allapatta YMCA in Miami, excelling in breaststroke competition.
An avid student of American history, devoted Seminole and NASCAR fan, he will be remembered by those who knew him as a great, enduring friend who also loved his family well. His dry humor and quick wit were unsurpassed. For years, he served as the editor of the online game, The Run for the Lillies, honing his writing skills to delightful perfection, which friends and fans followed with enthusiasm. He was well read, politically active locally and a champion of democracy. He is survived by his wife Robin DuPont and sister Celia Wannall (Dick) of Marietta, GA; nephew Matthew Wannall (Mary Steele) of Aberdeen, NC; great-nieces Lauren, Hannah, and Peyton; and nephew Danny Wannall (Mary Wright) of Cartersville, GA; great-nephew Graham and great-niece Katie, in addition to his many friends and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Armand A. and Alice Tongue DuPont.
Armand requested that his ashes be released by his family to the Atlantic Ocean. A private memorial service will be observed. For the love and support provided, his family asks that memorial contributions be made to Big Bend Hospice, Tallahassee, Florida at www.bigbendhospice.org. or 1-800-772-5862.
