Michael Alan Whalen, 52, of Pensacola, died May 18, 2013. He was born September 25, 1960 in Oklahoma City, OK to Floyd and Marjorie Whalen. He attended schools in that area and graduated from Midwest City (OK) High School in 1978. He immediately enlisted in the US Navy and served for 16 years in various locations, stateside. During that time he was stationed aboard the USS Kauffman as a Mechanical Systems Technician and recieved a Navy Achievement Award, as well as numerous others, for his work on the ship. The Kauffman was assigned to countermeasure support and merchant ship escort duties. Michael was a disabled veteran, but was an accomplished computer technician and had plans to have a homebased business in the near future. He had an interest in many things and his mind was always reaching to discover more about them. A certified auto mechanic, and an natural "Mr. Fix It", Michael was a kind and generous man, who loved his family and friends, and they all loved him. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory, are his mother, Marj; his wife, Kathy; daughters, Kristi (Jamal) and Courtney (Mac); and their mother, Barbara; granddaughters, Shian, Makalya, and Kaitlyn; his brother, Bill; stepsister, Priscilla (Odell); stepbrother, Michael B. (Marian); nephew, Micah; niece, Mandy and her daughter, Anabell; and special friends, Alicia Nicolas, Liyanna English, and Joyce Volant.
Burial will be at Barrancas National Cemetery on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 11am. Family and friends are invited to leave from Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel at 10:30am in procession to the cemetery. Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
