Katie Kudenov was born October 4, 1927 in Los Angeles, California to Alexei Kudenov and Anna Tickenov Kudenov. Her parents were born in Russia and came to America through Ellis Island in 1905 to escape the Bolshevik Revolution.
Katie graduated from Huntington Park High in LA in 1945. She received her Bachelors and Special Secondary Physical Education Credential from UCLA in 1951. She taught school in Southern California until 1963. She met her future husband Ralph Malone on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu and they married four months later in December of 1963. She then came to live in Fresno, California. In 1983 she received her Multiple Subjects Credential from Fresno State and taught school in Sanger at Lincoln and Del Rey Elementary schools. She retired from teaching in 1997.
Katie loved watching baseball and routed for the Dodgers. She was an avid fan of college basketball as well especially when UCLA was playing. She loved to read, cook, and entertain friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Malone; son-in-law, Christopher Whiteside; three brothers, Alexander Kudenov, Peter Kudenov, and John Kudenov; eight sisters, Natalie Kudenov, Marge A. Marott, Sally K. Engebretsen, Anna Kudenov, Vera K. Pearson, Jean K. Efseaff, Luba K. Scott, and Dorothy K. Howard; and one nephew, David A. Pearson.
Katie is survived by her daughter, Katherine Malone Whiteside; her granddaughter, Ruslana Whiteside; plus many nieces and nephews.
A Private Service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes on Wednesday, May 29, 2013.
