A native of Elbert County, GA, Mr. Greenway was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Greenway and Annie Sue Davis Greenway. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1949. After graduation he was employed by Asgrow Seed Company for 45 years retiring in 1994. His expertise was in seed research for Asgrow. It was in this capacity that he was instrumental in developing the Vidalia onion that is now a household name and is grown in Vidalia, GA. Mr. Greenway was highly respected by his company and his fellow co-workers. His was selected as salesman of the year 3 times during his employment. Upon retirement he moved to Athens and enjoyed traveling with family and friends. He was an avid gardener and maintained a beautiful garden. He touched the lives of many people with his intellect, humor, integrity, and the ability to make you feel special when communicating with him. Davis was the epitome of a true southern gentleman.
Survivors include brother, Ed Greenway and wife, Rosa; sister, Gloria Barksdale and husband, Joe; godson, Scott Evans and wife Sandra, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Friday, May 24th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM Thursday, May 23rd at Bernstein.
