Winiford Muriel Alpers, 88, Kansas City, MO passed away June 3, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Visitation will begin 10:00 AM with funeral service at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 6th at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2003 NE Englewood Rd, Kansas City, MO. Graveside services will be 2:30 PM Thursday at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Corder, MO. Contributions are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Winiford was born February 9, 1925 to Roy and Julia Gifford in Trimble, MO and grew up in Kearney, MO. In 1947 she married Arnold Alpers. For 7 years they lived in Corder, MO before moving to Kansas City in 1954. Winiford was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She retired from Bolling Builders. She was an avid bridge player, fisherman, mushroom hunter and sports enthusiast. She loved to follow the MU Tigers, Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold of the home; two sons, Lynn Alpers, Bozeman, MT, Les (Janifer) Alpers, Blue Springs, MO; and daughter, Ann Stokes (Bill), Camden Point, MO; sister-in-law, Clara Gifford, Rockford, IL; sister, Freda Seevers, Gladstone, MO; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
