Bertha Spross of Waco died early Thursday morning, June 6, 2013, at the age of 79. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Canaan Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Canaan Baptist Cemetery, under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor. While there will not be a formal visitation, viewing will commence at 10:00 A.M. Friday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mrs. Spross was born January 11, 1934, in Waco, Texas, the daughter of John A. and Frieda M. (Purczinsky) Massirer and attended University High School. She was reared in the Levi and Cottonwood area near Waco. When she married, she moved to Crawford and later to Waco in 1997. On January 29, 1952, she married Leo Morris Spross in Crawford, Texas.
During her years in Crawford, she was an active member of Canaan Baptist Church where, in earlier years, she taught in the children’s Sunday School Classes and served on various committees. While rearing her children, she was a room mother and a member of the P.T.A. in Crawford. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were a very important part of her life as she enjoyed being with them. She also enjoyed sewing, playing dominos, cooking for the family and flower and vegetable gardening.
Also preceding her in death was a brother, John Massirer, Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Leo Spross of sixty-one years; a son, Farron Spross and wife Karen of Crawford; a daughter, Ramona Cunningham and husband David of Crawford; four grandchildren, Rachel Spross, Andrew Spross, Colt Cunningham and Chloe Cunningham.
