(November 4, 1930, Lamberhust, Kent, United Kingdom – June 09, 2013 Oshawa, Ontario, Canada)
(Retired Director of Truck Sales, General Motors of Canada)
We remember and celebrate the full life of Brian Barden and announce his passing on June 9th, 2013, at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa surrounded by the love of his family. Brian was married to his loving and devoted wife, Jill, for nearly 58 years and together, they raised Jane, Kim, Wendy and Stephen – all of whom adored him. Brian will be sadly missed by Jill and his children, his sons-in-law Steve, Paul and Geoff and daughter-in-law Angie and by his grandchildren Christopher and his wife Jacqueline, Brian and his wife Shannon, Liam, Willy, Emma, Braeden, Jack and Cole and great-grandchildren Patrick and Emilie. Brian was predeceased by his father Stephen, mother Nora, sister Betty Dürr and brother Michael and will be remembered by relatives in England, Denmark, Australia and the United States. We knew Brian as a caring husband and father, for his professionalism, dedication, kindness and generosity through 35 years of employment with General Motors of Canada and his unwavering good spirit in the face of the challenges presented to him later in life. He was rarely seen without a smile by any of his doctors, nurses and therapists since his first stroke 21 years ago but, sadly, that smile was taken from us for good with another stroke on Friday. An enormous thanks to all of the healthcare professionals who cared for Brian at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa, Mt. Sinai Hospital and York Durham Aphasia Centre. Loving gratitude especially to the wonderful Garden Gate team at Hillsdale Terrace Long Term Care and to the staff of the Supportive Care ward at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa for their compassion during Brian’s last days with us. Very special thanks to Dr. Ted Brankston for his ongoing care and support. Keeping with dad’s wishes, a private family service will be followed by a celebration of his life at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234) on Thursday, June 13th, from 7 – 9 p.m. at which time friends will be received by the family. The family would appreciate donations made in Brian’s name to the York Durham Aphasia Centre, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at SickKids Toronto or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
Dad, we’ll see you again soon for another run down the ski hill, one more sail on Georgian Bay and a glass of scotch at the end of the day…..
