Thomas William Lucas, 64, was called home to the Lord on June 11, 2013 with his family by his side. He was born on May 11, 1949 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to William and Delores, who have preceded him in death. Tom attended St. Thomas the Apostle High School, where he met the love of his life of 47 years, Sally Mosher. Tom and Sally were married on October 8, 1971 and moved to Iowa where Tom attended Palmer College in Davenport. While there, they were blessed with two children Timothy (Angela ) and Amy Gherardini (Hemitheus). After completing his studies, the family returned to Ann Arbor, where they were blessed with two more children Joseph and Angela. Tom was the proud grandfather to his buddy Gabriel, son of Amy and was very excited for the arrival of his second grandchild, a baby girl due in October to Angela and Keith Hall.
Tom spent his career in the Orthotics and Prosthetics field and over the last 20 years he was employed at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Tom was passionate about his work and cared deeply for his patients, particularly the kids at Mott Children’s Hospital.
Tom was a devoted Catholic and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ann Arbor.
He loved watching Michigan football, basketball and was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers. He enjoyed spending summers in Northern Michigan with his family. Tom also was an expert in trivia and statistics of sports and music. Many people attempted to stump him over the years, but were very seldom successful. Tom was known for his sense of humor and would always find ways to make people around him smile. Those who knew him thought he was the funniest and kindest person. He was loved by everyone who met him and will be deeply missed.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ann Arbor with Rev. Fr. Jim McDougall presiding. The family will have visitation starting at 9:30am. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.
