Olivia was born on August 3, 1918, in Beeville Texas. She was the daughter of the late Petra and Synovio Cantu.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ynocente Castaneda whom she was married to for 55 years and her daughter, Ramona Escobedo.
Olivia (also known as “Lile” by her family) was a homemaker and a caregiver to many of her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for everyone that entered her home. Lile was loved by her large family, and everyone knew she was a person with a generous spirit. She was a strong woman with a sense of humor and was admired by many for her wisdom, advice, patience and prayers. Lile enriched the lives of all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her sons: Alejandro (Janie) Castaneda of Detroit, Michigan., Synovio (Rosie) Castaneda, and Johnny (Lisa) Castaneda both of Taft; her daughters: Sostena Diaz of Houston Texas, Rosa Gonzales and Lucia (Frank) Encinia both of Taft, Petra (Noe Maldonado) Avalos of San Antonio Texas, Matiana C. Ochoa of Gregory, Texas and Gloria (Lupe) Castillo of Anton, Texas. She had 46 grandchildren, 111 great- grandchildren, 45 great-great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home in Taft, Texas, on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow the service at Taft Memorial Park. Services are entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home, Taft.
