Cataula, GA- U.S. Army (Ret.) Lt. Colonel John Charles Dixon, 89, of Cataula, GA, passed away on June 21, 2013.
Funeral services for Lt. Colonel John Charles Dixon will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Columbus with Pastor Eric Estes officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with full Military Honors rendered, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary 4071 Macon Road Columbus.
Visitation for Colonel Dixon will be from 6-8pm, on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the funeral home.
Colonel Dixon was born January 14, 1924 to the late John Charles Dixon, Sr. and Lilian B. Dixon. In addition to his parents Colonel Dixon was preceded in death by his first wife Mary L. Dixon. Colonel Dixon served his country in the United States Army he was a veteran of World War II, Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict. His civilian career included Teacher at Kendrick High school, Columbus High School, Managing Broker at Showcase Realty. He then served as Post Quarter Master at Fort Benning until his retirement.
Survivors include his beloved wife Janell H. Dixon, his children, Terri (Larry) Davis, Becky (John) Chapman, John Dixon, III, Jim (Kris) Dixon, and his beloved daughter, Kathleen Dixon, eight grandchildren, step children, Danice Justice, Trina (Jeff) Macon, Tracy (John) Thompson, Brenda (Dawne) Scott, Cathryn (Phil) Goodwin, Carolyn (Col.Chris Martin), and Angela Dennis, sixteen grandchildren, and twenty three great-grandchildren. Special friend Bishop Barbara Shepherd of Words of Wisdom Church.
