Mary Ellen O'Connor Davis, formerly of Edenton, Ohio, and Wailua, Kaua'i, Hawai'i, died on Sunday, June 23, 2013. She was born on March 28, 1923. In her lifetime, her greatest joy was the love she shared with her husband, Fred. She was proud of her seven children, Joseph, Alice, Anne, Daniel, Jeremy, Jennifer and Frederick II; her 12 grandchildren, John, Jaina, Nathan, Ellen, Kitty, Joel, Davis-Jack, Chrystal, Sarah, Haley, Cat and Joe; and her five great-grandchildren, Liam, Milo, Sylvia, Lucy and William. She also loved UCLA, from which she graduated in 1954. That year, she became the first woman editor-in-chief of the UCLA Daily Bruin. She was a founding member of the UCLA Foundation. Emy, as she was known, was grateful for the comfort and inspiration given her by deep Catholic faith. She had a passion for cats of all kinds, but especially Siamese. Kaua'i was a special place to Emy. She asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be made to the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Kaua'i. The phone number there is 808-332-7324, ext. 211, or the email address is [email protected]. She hopes her friends will remember her in their prayers for peace. Her ashes will be mingled with her husband's and buried in Pierce Brothers Westwood Memorial Park, 1218 Glendon Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90024. The time and date of the service will be announced later.
