John Thomas Currie passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013. He was born September 23, 1930 in Cornell, Wisconsin. John grew up in Cornell, where his first jobs during high school were custodian of a grocery store, painting house and finally as a lumberjack. In younger years he played basketball and volleyball. He took to hunting early in life and continued with skeet shooting for many years.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1949 where he met his loving wife Maria. Both were in the Service for their full four year commitment. His last base was Nellis Air Force in Las Vegas. John found civilian employment at Vincent Air Force Base in Yuma during which time he worked on this Bachelors of Science degree from A.S.U. He substituted in Yuma School District #1. Later he was employed at the Marine Base in Yuma and finally with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. John became a member of American Legion Post #19. Many hours were spent at BBQ's, patriotic functions, conventions and as official designated driver when Maria became American Legion Dept. of Arizona Commander from 1993 to 1994. He will be missed by both family and friends in Yuma all in Wisconsin. Valla con Dios Jack!
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maria; daughter, Chris Houseknecht; sons, Keith Thomas, Glenn Patrick, Matthew David, and Sean Michael. Along with sisters, Grace, Katherine, Virginia and Rosalinda; grandsons, Tony, Nicholas and Jessie. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Violet Currie; brothers, William, Richard, Dale and Robert and sister, Betty Walker; sons, John Brian, Stephen Paul and grandson, Glenn Patrick II.
