He was born in Mason City, IL on Dec. 10th, 1932 to Harold and Mildred (Seward) Schussele. After graduation from East Peoria High School, he served in the US Army rising to the rank of Corporal and served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he went to work for Caterpillar Tractor Company where he enrolled in and completed The Precision Machinists’ Program.
He married Margaret “Marge” Burnett in LaPrairie, IL on Sept. 20th, 1958. They had three children; Norm, Karri, and Vikki. John retired from Caterpillar after 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, golf, outdoor activities, woodworking, coaching and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church in Dunlap and was a former member of the Arrowhead Country Club.
John is survived by his wife, Marge of Peoria; son, Norm Schussele and his wife Debra Daniels of Joliet; daughter, Karri Dabney-Sprout and her husband Bryan Sprout of Mapleton; daughter, Vikki Mackovich of Bettendorf, IA. He will be deeply missed by his eight grandchildren, Derek and Jennifer Schussele, Melissa and Jake Seckler, Alex and A.J. Dabney, Dylan and Makenzie Mackovich, and grandchildren through marriage, Justin and Tera Sprout and Hannah Sprout. He was also a great grandfather of five; Eliana and Aubrey Seckler, Logan and Brylee Sprout, and Carson Rademaker. We will all miss John’s love of family and his outgoing sense of humor.
Cremation has been accorded. Family will receive friends from
5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 28th, 2013 at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29th at the Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Kathryn Pearce officiating. Burial of ashes will be at a later date.
