The passing of Aubrey Caldwell occurred Saturday, June 29,2013 in the
Glace Bay Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late John and Sarah Caldwell.
During WW 2 Dad served with the Army Signal Corps on both coasts. In 1947
he began work as a lineman with MT&T and retired as construction
supervisor in 1980. He was a longtime Odd fellow, legion member and
telephone pioneer and adherent of Knox United Church. Dad loved the
outdoors and enjoyed watching and participating, his favorite sports being
hockey, baseball and snowmobiling. A model of participaction and fitness
he rode his bike, walked and played golf well into his 80's. In retirement
he had time to develop his talents as an oil painter and master gardener.
He loved the bungalow in Round Island summering there for over 70 years
and enjoying boating and fishing with family and friends. He and mom
wintered in Florida for over 20 years and made many wonderful friends
there. Dad was by nature a people person and had a genuine interest in and
concern for family, friends and neighbors. His positive caring attitude
and his ability to make the best of each day will be an inspiration to his
family forever.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Melvin; sisters
Melva MacAulay, Verna Wadden, and Eileen Larkin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Marguerite; sons John
(Isabel) and Lloyd (Cathy); daughter Vera Burke (Pat). Grandchildren,
Rick, Elizabeth, Jeff, Chris, Amy, Kate and Bree; great-grandchildren,
Jessie, Jack, Cole and Caden.
The family would like to express our thanks to Taigh Na Mara for their
wonderful care as well as Dr.s Spenser and MacLean.
Visitation will be at Pattens Funeral Home, Tuesday, 7-9 p.m., July 2,
2013. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, 2 p.m. July 3 at Knox United
Church, Glace Bay. Internment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke
Foundation, Taigh Na Mara, Knox United Church or charity of choice.
