Mr. Corpening was born November 12, 1951 in Caldwell County to the late Luther Corpening and Bessie Anna Mae Hood Corpening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Luther Corpening, Jr.; sisters, Caroline Corbin and Julia Ann Corpening; mother-in-law Ruby Johnson Pearson; brothers-in-law Walter R. Johnson and Lonnie Lipford; sister-in-law Loretta Corpening. He worked in the furniture industry and was a member of Unity of Faith Church of God.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Paula Corpening of the home; his sons, Dionta Avery and Dondi Avery, both of Morganton; his daughters, Erica Johnson and fiancé Evan, and Delicia Johnson-Ervin and husband Wesley, both of Morganton; his brothers, Paul Corpening of Lenoir, Mark “Rickey” Corpening of Lenoir, Steve Corpening and wife Tammy of Conover, and Kelly Corpening of Lenoir; his sisters, Hazel Horton and husband Fonze, Debra Corpening and Cypress Gail Lipford, all of Lenoir; his grandchildren, Jordan Johnson and his girlfriend Gabby, Marisha Avery, Braxton Grant, Dondi Avery Jr., Joslyn Grant, Cydnee Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Jatavious Johnson, Wesley Avery and Faith (Krista) Avery, and a great grandchild Kayden Johnson. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and other loved ones and special friends Elmer Pearson and Paul Calloway and his beloved dogs Molly Corpening, Lillie Johnson and Gizmo Williams.
A funeral service will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with Pastor Billy J. Lipford, Reverend Eugene Kincaid, Reverend Annabelle Corpening and Evangelist Betty Lipford officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be the nephews of Mr. Corpening.
