Richard T. Pelczynski, 67, of Sikeston, died at 1:09 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born December 10, 1945, in St. Louis, to the late Rome Edward and Gertrude Delores Blaskiewicz Pelczynski. He was raised in St. Louis and attended St. Hedwig Catholic Grade School and graduated from Cleveland High School in St. Louis. In 1974, he moved from St. Louis to Caruthersville, and then in 1989, he moved to Sikeston.
For 30 years, he was the general manager for the Brown Shoe Company manufacturing facilities in St. Louis, Caruthersville and Charleston. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Caruthersville and the Caruthersville Rotary Club. He was a member of the Sikeston Lions Club, the Sikeston Veterans Park Committee, and for 10 years, he was a member of the Sikeston High School football chain gang crew. He had served in the U.S. Army Reserve and had attended Saint Francis Xaiver Catholic Church and the First Christian Church in Sikeston.
On June 28, 1974, in St. Louis, he married Kathleen Cullum, and she survives of the home in Sikeston.
He is also survived by: three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Kim Carter and Scott and Laura Carter of Caruthersville and Rome and Mary Pelczynski of Charleston; one daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Trisha Pelczynski Taylor and Garret Taylor of Columbia; one sister, Kathleen Thien of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Michelle Hepler, Melissa Loper, Dylan Taylor, Davis Taylor and Olivia Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Carter Hepler and Ava Hepler; and two nieces, Cynthia Thien and Camille Thien.
