Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Dr. Joseph P. and Mary V. (Murphy) Clark. He moved to Somerset in 1957 and returned to Fall River in 2002.
He was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1946. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the post World War II reconstruction of Japan. Taking advantage of the G.I. Bill, he graduated from Massachusetts College of Optometry in 1952. Dr. Clark opened his office in Somerset where he practiced optometry for 56 years until his retirement in 2008. He was past President of the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists. Dr. Clark was a Eucharistic Minister and lay reader at St. Patrick’s Church in Somerset. He loved going to Baker’s Beach in Westport, working out at Horton’s Gym in Somerset, cheering on Dighton-Rehoboth football teams, attending classes at the “Second Half,” traveling the world with his wife, seeing friends at the “Over the Hill Gang,” and celebrating Easter with his family at the Venus de Milo Restaurant.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Dr. Margaret Clark-Moroff and her husband Richard of Berkley, Elizabeth F. “Lisa” Driscoll and her husband David of Somerset, Joan M. McDonald and her husband Joseph of Swansea, and Thomas G. Clark, Jr. of Fall River; his sister, Veronica A. Whalen of North Providence; and his grandchildren, Matthew Moroff, Jana Moroff, Patrick Driscoll and his wife Kerri, Meaghan Driscoll, Samantha Clark, Thomas Clark III, Kayleigh McDonald, and Hope McDonald and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held Friday, July 19, 2013 at 9AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT ROSE E. SULLIVAN, 866 County St., Somerset with a funeral mass at 10 AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 306 South St. Somerset. Visiting hours Thursday 4-7 PM. Burial private.
