Rev. Verna Ethelene Duncan Stuart, 87, of Plant City, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the LifePath Melech Hospice House in Temple Terrace. She was born in Lloyd, FL on February 21, 1926. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alver Curtis and Nellie Duncan; two brothers, Levi and Alver Duncan; two sisters, Elaine Duncan Helms and Anitra Duncan Walker; her beloved husband of 71 years, Rev. James L. Stuart, Sr., and one great-granddaughter Beatrice Chauncey. She is survived by one sister, Betty Chambliss, one brother, Dr. Norman Duncan; two sons, James Leon Stuart, Jr. (Sandra) and Joel C. Stuart (Maria) of Fleming Island, FL and one daughter, Miriam Stuart Chauncey Pace (Grover) of Plant City, FL; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She worked in the field of nursing for 43 years, retiring as an RN in 1999 from Hospice of Marion County in Ocala, FL. She was also a licensed minster for 51+ years and ordained by the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC) for the Florida Conference. She served in every capacity for 27 years in the Women's Auxiliary/Women's Ministries. During this period, she served as President/Conference Director for the WA/WM for 16-1/2 years. She served as Director for the GEMS (Girls Entering the Master's Service) for 2-1/2 years. She taught Sunday School for 57 years. She was an avid reader and loved gardening. She touched countless lives and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Wells Memorial & Event Center in Plant City, FL. Visitation will be at 11:00 am with service to follow at 12:00.
