Steven Wayne Porter, 67, passed away quietly in his sleep in the early morning hours of July 18, 2013, at his home in Pensacola, FL. Steven was born Sept. 16, 1945, in Hyannis, to Ethel (Forgeron) Porter and the late Warren Porter. A native of Cape Cod, he served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked for years in Kentucky in the thoroughbred horse industry before returning to Cape Cod to join his brother, David, in construction and carpentry.
He and his dearly loved wife of 27 years, Janis (Salvaggio) Porter, moved to Pensacola, FL, upon retirement, where he luxuriated in ample sunshine.
He is survived by his devoted son, Jeremy Porter, charming daughter, Walker Logan and her husband Zach Logan. Steven was the loving brother of David Porter, Tim Porter, Kitty Belliveau, and the late Danny Porter. He is the cherished grandfather of Grant, Grace, Vienne, and Carrver. He was very much beloved by his wife, loved his children and grandchildren, and was a kind and generous "Grampa Silly."
Visiting Hours will be from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 24 at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham. A funeral service will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home, Chatham on Thursday, July 25 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Union Cemetery, Rt. 28, Chatham. Immediately following the graveside services, there will be a gathering at the VFW on George Ryder Rd. in Chatham.
