After graduating from Ohio State University, he attained the rank of Major in the US Army during World War II. He married Dorothy Eleanor Mack and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for the rest of his career. They had three children.
John was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Exchange Club of Austin where he had many friends. He enjoyed sailing on Lake Travis with his wife Dorothy and traveling the US by car. He later became quite accomplished in his hobbies which included wood carving, and painting with water colors.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1991.
John leaves behind his daughter Susan and her husband Tony Sequra and his sons Twig and Marco, his son Roger and his wife Gayland and their sons Eric and Taylor, and his son David and his wife Barbara and his two children Bradley and his wife Kellie and their children Nickolas and Dylan, and daughter Callie and her husband Brad Calhoun, and his half-brother George Williams.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family, from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday 26th of July 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
A graveside services will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 27th of July 2013, at Austin Memorial Park, followed by memorial service at eleven o’clock at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, reception immediately follows at the church.
