SOUTH PARIS: Albert E. Pepin, 80, of Lewiston, passed away Wednesday July 24, 2013 at the Maine Veteran’s Nursing Home in South Paris. He was born in Lewiston, ME on August 28, 1932 a son of the late Luigi and Leona (Bourque) Pepin. He grew up in the Lewiston area and attended area schools. He eventually married his late wife of 25 years, Maureen D. (Davis) Pepin in 1973. Albert served his nation during the Korean conflict between 1950-56 receiving the Silver Star, a National Defense medal, a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars. Prior to retiring in 1967, he was a professional boxer and a roofing\siding applicator by trade. Affectionately known by most as “Alpo”, he was a member of the Elks Lodge, New Auburn Social Club and the Passtemps Club where he loved to play cards, shuffle board, pool and socialize. In 1991, Alpo was the National Singles Pool Champion. He was always fond of sports, but golfing was his favorite. He had a pretty good handicap too ! We will all miss the fun loving, good natured man he was. Especially his friends and children. He leaves behind a dear friend of many years, Evelyn Dulac. Alpo is also survived by his first wife, Rita, four sons, Daniel R. Blackerby of Nevada, Thomas A. Blackerby of North Carolina, Marc A. Pepin of Andover & Peter R. Blackerby of Florida; two daughters, Tammy Perciful of Indiana & Judy Bilodeau of Lewiston; four stepchildren, Donna “Kaye” Rybinski of Illinois, Keith R. Desrochers of Lewiston, Mark S. Desrochers of Livermore & Kathleen M. Bousquet of Lewiston. Albert will also be remembered by his sister Germaine Charpentier as well as his 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his his second wife, Nancy, a baby daughter Robin Joy in 1960 and his wife Maureen in 1998.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the funeral home. A Liturgy of the Word service will take place on Monday at 11am also at the funeral home followed by a committal service and military honors at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn.
