RUNYON, Arthur V. 77, passed on July 28, 2013 while on vacation in Park City, UT. He was born Dec. 1, 1935 in High Bridge, NJ to Arthur N. and Myrtle Runyon. He married Joan Lee Gouldner on June 23, 1957 in Plainfield, NJ. He attended Plainfield High School, St. Pete College and St. Leo University, and followed the family tradition of Masonic membership. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Art will forever live in the hearts of his family. He was an avid boater and enjoyed an abundance of golf in retirement at The Villages. Art served 4 years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He spent 1 ½ years in the Atlantic fleet submarines, with participation in operation "Deep Freeze", and served on the 1st U.S. ship up the Saigon River to evacuate Vietnam. He began his successful career in the police dept. on Dec. 1956 in Plainfield, NJ. In 1968, he moved to Florida and started with the St. Petersburg Police Dept., and retired in 1991 as acting Chief of Police. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan Lee Runyon; children, Mark A. Runyon, Pamela R. Haigh, Paul V. Runyon, Pamela's husband, Herbert S. Haigh, Mark's wife, Maura Runyon; brother, Howard L. Runyon and wife, Loretta Runyon; brother-in-law, Eric A. Johnson and wife, Donna Johnson; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents Arthur and Mrytle Runyon, siblings Glen Leaver, Gene Leaver and Joyce Leaver. A Celebration of Art's Life will be held on Monday, Aug. 12th, 12 pm at North Lake Presbyterian Church, 975 Rolling Acres Rd., Lady Lake, FL. Please do not wear black. Internment will precede the service at 9 am at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
