George served in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from the Jeff Davis Parish Road Works Department. He was a rice farmer and raised cattle for his family. He was a well respected man of the community. He enjoyed visiting others and telling stories of old times.
George had a strong belief in Jesus Christ and was a great spiritual leader for his family. Along, with his wife, Hazel, they influenced many lives.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Hazel Cormier Demarest; sons and daughters in law, Eugene and Debbie Demarest of Welsh; Jr. and Dorothy Cormier of Jennings; Allen and Bernetta Demarest of Welsh; Randy Demarest of Welsh; daughters and sons in law, Betty and C.C. Spell and Carole and Bob Cormier all of Welsh; He was blessed with 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; one aunt, Allie Ardoin, of Monroe and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Tousin Demarest and Rufus Demarest, sister, Allia Fontenot, oldest son, Raymond Demarest and his great great granddaughter, Kaylex Wilson.
He was well loved and will be missed by many. We were blessed to have him here for all those years. Heaven just got a little brighter with him walking the streets of gold.
Pallbearers are Todd Spell, Dwayne Wilson, Cody Demarest, Brandt Poole, Nathan Spell and Mason Hebert.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and resume Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings.
