Floramae Schlenker Hancock passed over on August 9, 2013. Daughter of Martin A. and Flora Schlenker, she was born January 19, 1925 and raised in Ann Arbor. She graduated from Ann Arbor High School and attended Michigan State University. Floramae was owner of Schlenker Hardware Store, founded by her grandfather, Christian Schlenker, in 1886. On March 17, 1957 she married John Hancock of Adrian MI. Together they raised three children and several small dogs.
Floramae was a member of Lamba Chi Omega business sorority, her sister philanthropists became lifelong friends. She also was a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ. She loved all animals and was especially fond of Toy Fox Terriers and Dachshunds. She loved spending summers at her cottage on Oneida Lake, walking in nature and hunting turtles and frogs with her nieces, children and grandchildren.
Floramae is survived by David John Hancock of Stockbridge and his children Dillon and Rachel; Steven John Hancock of Ann Arbor; Susan Mary Hancock (married to Greg Mitchell) of La Vernia, TX; a twin sister Rosemary Streiter of Brighton: several nieces and nephews, especially Joann Cahill of North Carolina; and devoted friend Shirley Eyl.
