Maynard Ackerman, 85, of Yakima died at Highgate Senior Living on August 11, 2013. He was born on June 20, 1928 in Bismark, NO. born to the late RA and Meta Ackerman. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Diane Van Heubelson and a son Roy.
He is survived by his wife and high school sweet-heart, Bobbie. They had 2 daughters, Carrie Coleman of Alice, TX and Kathy Forgey of Naches; 2 sons, Robert of Yakima and Don of Los Vegas, NV; one brother, Warren of Montrase, CO and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Maynard grew up in Herreid, SD where his dad had a grocery store and butcher shop. Maynard grew up in the grocery business from an early age and it continued to be his profession for most of his life. He was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in Korea until 1953. Upon returning to civilian life he went to work for pacific Fruit and Grocery in Minet, ND. After several transfers he ended up in Yakima in 1972 where he eventually started his own grocery business, supplying mainly restaurant, hospitals and nursing homes. After his retirement he went back to work for Newton Mg selling promotional items. He won top salesman’s awards several times and several cruises and trips abroad.
Maynard and Bobbie were members of Wagon Wheeler, square dance club and loved to dance. He also loved golf and camping with his family at a lot in Elk Meadows near Cle Elum were we spent many happy weekends.
